Saleh Khana or Armory Jaipur

Saleh Khana is located towards the right
of the
Mubarak Mahal at the old
Gunjankhana, where Dhrupad singers and
Kathak dancers used to train and perfect
this classical art. It has a large
section of antique weapons of the 15th
century used by the
Jaipur royal family.
There are Persian and Rajput swords, the
most important sword exhibited here
belong to Sawai Maan Singh, who led the
force of emperor Akbar, which is about
11 kg. in weight. It also has a sword
gifted by Queen Victoria to Sawai Ram
Singh (1835-80), which is encrusted with
rubies and emeralds. There are decorated
daggers with handles of crystal and
ivory and scissor action daggers. The
fire arms include double barrel guns,
early hand guns, percussion cap guns
which also served the purpose of arrows,
battle axes and a range of shields made
of rhino, crocodile and turtle skins. |
